Karuna Trust Coronavirus Crisis Appeal
Support the most vulnerable and discriminated communities to survive this crisis. As India enters a second wave of mass infections, the situation is again becoming desperate with the most vulnerable and marginalised people suffering most.
In March 2020 Karuna launched its Coronavirus Crisis Appeal to respond rapidly and effectively to the emerging needs of those affected by the virus. We work in close collaboration with our partners especially the main Triratna Trusts in India.
So far we have been able to deliver emergency relief, including 29,820 food parcels and 22,580 medical kits, to 143,000 people from marginalised communities across 6 Indian States and 3 districts of Nepal.
We urgently need to provide additional emergency relief to unemployed migrant workers, children out of school, women at risk of violence, and people suffering directly with virus infection.
Abhayaratna Trust India Coronavirus Urgent Appeal
The Abhayaratna Trust makes direct grants to individual Order members experiencing financial hardship.
In response to the suffering arising from the coronavirus pandemic, the Trust quickly set up an Appeal for a Coronavirus Emergency Fund. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Order members, mitras and friends from around the world, the Appeal has raised substantial amounts of money.
The Abhayaratna Trust is working very closely with the Indian Order Office and Indian Order Convenors to get financial support to those individuals most in need of help for food, housing bills, medicines, oxygen, hospital fees for them and their families.
People to People
People to People (Nagpur, India) is working in the slums of Kamptee, to quickly organise an emergency COVID medical centre for the poor people there. Oxygen and medical supplies have been located, but your financial help is needed to secure them.
Can you help order member Tejadhamma, and his team, by donating through the link below? Every dollar you give today, will go straight to saving lives.

Working Together to Respond to the COVID Crisis in India
Covid-19 continues to cause distress and poverty throughout India. Hospitals are under strain and many people are turned away and forced to pay for private healthcare. For many in our sangha finding the money for private healthcare isn’t possible.
Others in our Indian sangha remain well but are unable to work due to the latest lockdown restrictions. Often responsible for supporting more than one household, these Order members and Mitras are facing severe financial hardship. FutureDharma and India Dhamma Trust are working closely with The Abhayaratna Trust and Karuna so that we can respond as effectively as possible. You can read more about how we’re working together here.
Our Ordination Teams in India are supported by gifts to India Dhamma Trust and Amrutsiddhi, India’s Movement Coordinator, is supported by your gifts to FutureDharma. Both Amrutsiddhi and members of our Ordination Teams continue to coordinate the work of the Emergency Relief Committee which for the last year has given food and support to people in need. Your gifts are also supporting our Youth workers in India who are reaching out to young people in these testing times.
Thank you for your continued support of members of our sangha in India and their work to reach out to people in our Buddhist community and beyond.
