Intro to Buddhism 3-week Course

Wednesday July 17 , 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Introduction to the Three Jewels: The Buddha, The Dharma, The Sangha

Siladasa, a senior member of the Triratna Buddhist Order, will introduce the core principles of the Buddhist tradition. He will explore in the first week “Who is the Buddha? and “What is Buddhahood?” in the historical figure and the archetype, both of which express a profound transcendental principle that underlies the mystery of existence.

The Dharma, subject of the second week, can be said to be the Truth as expressed in the life of a human being and also the path to the Truth, with all its means and methods as taught by the Buddha. It is at root the Threefold Way of Ethics, Meditation and Wisdom.

The Sangha is the fellowship of the Buddhist disciples that inspires and guides us to the Truth. It can also be seen in a broader context as all those practising Buddhists who help each other on the way to liberation from a human life conditioned by greed, ill-will and ignorance. The Sangha will be explored in the third week with stories and parables and examples of spiritual friendship from the Buddhist tradition. Throughout the course, inquiry and discussion will be welcomed and Siladasa will provide resources that will serve your further interest, and even participation, in a Buddhist life.

Course participants are invited to join a meditation class on any of the Saturdays following these Wednesday evenings, door fee waived.
