Mindfulness Based Addiction Recovery (MBAR) Train the Trainer course for Health Care Professionals, Addiction Wokers, Mindfulness and Meditation practitioners and people with an interest in addiction.
About the training
MBAR is a mindfulness-based approach to preventing relapse and promoting recovery from addiction. Originally called mindfulness-based relapse prevention (MBRP), the course was developed by coauthor of Eight Step Recovery – Dr Paramabandhu Groves, in collaboration with his co author, Valerie Mason-John. Dr Groves has been leading the course at Breathing Space and in the NHS since 2005.
Training the trainer MBAR course was designed by Valerie Mason-John, in collaboration with Dr Groves and will cover mindfulness and meditative techniques including three minute breathing space, four basic needs of the heart, body scan, and working with difficulties within a context of mindfulness.
The course will cover MBAR models such as the vicious cycle, also fact and interpretation, triggers and high risk situations will be introduced. There will also be personal reflection and rehearsal of parts of the course.
Outcomes of the Training
• Understand the MBAR course and be able to co-facilitate this course, or part of this course in your institution, as part of your work practice, or at your local Buddhist centre.
• Understand the nature of addiction and compulsive behaviours and how it relates to your own life.
• Understanding of meditation and mindfulness in relation to addiction.
• Identify your existing skills in working effectively with mindfulness for addictions and compulsive behaviours and increase your confidence in applying them.
Who is the Training for?
The training is for experienced meditation practitioners, people with an understanding of mindfulness, and health care providers working in the field of addiction in its broadest definition. Group skills and teaching skills preferred but not an absolute requirement.
A 3 day course at Melbourne Buddhist Centre:
Monday 29 October to Wednesday 31 October , 9am-6pm each day.

Mindfulness Based Addiction Recovery approaches, She brings her professional experience as a master trainer, combined with her mindfulness practice and experience of being a Mindfulness and Kindfulness practitioner to help others work with stress and difficult emotions.
She is known as the Bully Doctor and is a master trainer and life coach in the field of mindfulness, conflict transformation, restorative justice and leadership skills. Raised in orphanages, foster homes, on the streets, she offers her recovery through mindfulness.
TEDx Speaker, Award winning of author of eight books and several plays. She works as a meditation teacher and has pioneered the Mindfulness Based Addiction Recovery MBAR training – that has been delivered in North America, Europe and Asia.
She is based in Canada BC and regularly delivers supervision, gives talks, and trains the trainer internationally. In the UK she has worked with Social Services, Youth Offending Teams, The Police, and many other organizations.
